Spencer's Here!!

Spencer's here for the weekend! I am so excited to have him out and to show him a piece of my world! I'll wait to share everything until after he is gone so I can do a better recap of the whole weekend!

In the meantime though... something else SUPER exciting happened! So there's this chef competition every year... (can you guess where I'm going with this???!!!) and the exec. chefs from the two main dining facilities (the South side - underclassmen vs the north side - upperclassmen). And then two students who live in the respective areas get chosen to be sous chefs... and GUESS WHO GOT CHOSEN?????

I had to fill out an application and stuff... and then I totally forgot about it, but then on tuesday I got an email saying I got it!!!! EEEEEEKKKK! The competition is next Tuesday night... it's gonna be like an iron chef kinda thing! We get 35 minutes to cook an appetizer and a main dish. HOW COOL IS THAT?! Ahh!!! They are giving us CHEF COATS! HOLY MOLY! and if we win... we EACH GET $250!!!

So I'm pumped about all that, but as we've spent time in the kitchen preparing this week... i've had EVEN MORE FUN and am EVEN MORE EXCITED! The kitchen in the Bear's Den is SO GIGANTIC! Oh my gosh. And there is so much food and ahhh! it was so neat to see how all the food is prepared and where it's stored and everything. The fridge room (yes room - acutally 3 rooms) are huge! like the size of my kitchen, dining room and living room! And cooking was so fun! I can't tell you what we're making in case someone from WU reads this but I'll post all about it on Tuesday night!

Okay, it's time to get some rest before a fun day exploring the city with spence tomorrow!
TTYSoon!
So we've had several practice sessions this week :)

The weeks are just flying by!

Hey y'all!

Let's see... another great week! It started out super busy, with some really late nights :/ but that meant that after it was all turned in... on Tuesday... it was downhill to the weekend!

I had an essay due both monday and tuesday, both of which I star
ted the night before. Bad idea. It's been a really interesting switch this semester because 4/5 classes are essay based... Which is the complete opposite of last semester... besides the 20-30 page papers I wrote for UrbanStudies (which don't count because they weren't even analytical), these are the first college papers I've had to write!

I don't really know what to expect in these two papers... they both couldbe super good, or
totally off base. Hahaha oh well! We shall see! The one paper I wrote two weeks ago I got back last week and before she handed them back she said that the highest grade was a 90% . I got an 88% but then after class she asked for mine backand said that she thinks I deserve a higher grade... okay!! sounds good to me!! she hasn't given it back yet, but I think she's giving me a 90 :)

Um what else... last weekend I got invited to attend this day-long retreat with Parker Palmer. Here's a link to his site, cuz i'd be impressed it you knew who he is! I didn't know who he was!! http://www.couragerenewal.org/parker It was a really interesting retreat. 30 students and 30 faculty/staff/community members. We discussed democracy and how to "heal the heart of democracy". I enjoyed the discussions but honestly it was a longgggg day. 9:45-5:30. And I knew I had two essays ahead of me... ah well! It all worked out!

I've been really enjoying my church group. I've really "clicked" with several of the girls, mostly older (juniors and seniors and seminary students) but it's been great! We're going out to dinner tomorrow night and I'm really excited about it! I've also been able to meet a couple of them for coffee over the last week or two and have been able to share my story. That has been good to share because its weird being in this place where there are probably only 3-4 people who know my story! So anyways, i'm loving spending time with them :)

By the way... sorry if i repeat what i say on other posts... i really can't remember what all i say on them... and don't often go back and read through them haha! so forgive my excitement over something i may have already told you about :)

Spencer comes next weekend!!! I am SO excited :D And then only three more weeks of classes and then i'll be home for spring break!

Jin, Anna and I made cake pops today! Shared them with the floor and with my community group (biblestudy).

After the floor had had their share :D

OH!!! IT SNOWED ON MONDAY! Here are some pics Shannon and I took :) The campus is SO pretty in the snow!!

Big Announcement!!

Guess who called me Tuesday morning as I was getting ready for class? The golf coach here at WU!!! Woah!! I was so taken aback!

So to make a really long story short...

I had emailed the coach in November or so asking about the possibility of playing next year. We had talked last spring but then with my injury, I dropped the ball and didn't keep in contact with him. So I contacted him in november but he never responded to my email... and I forgot all about it.

so here we are, what like four months later? And I get this call from an unknown number... I was so surprised to hear from him and immediately got excited :) He apologized for not responding but wanted to know if i was still interested... (duh!) and if I was, could i meet with him sometime this week!

Well yes sir i think i could squeeze you into my schedule. ABSOLUTELY!

We met yesterday and talked for over an hour! It was a really great conversation and by the end we were both really excited about the possiblity of it all working out! I explained to him my whole situation with my injury but that i cannot wait to get back into golf and I would really love to play for the team next year... he said that if I could get my scores into the 80-85 range I would be able to compete for the last spot on the traveling team and would be right in the range of the #5-9 girls on the team. So that is great news! It means i'll have a lot of work ahead of me... even with how hard i tried all through high school, i could never drop my score that low. But i think i could if i really put some practice in, with a real coach and with some summer weather!

I still haven't touched a club since last may which makes me a little nervous. But honestly, that could be good cuz I will have lost my bad habits and will be all fresh to start again! So we'll see how this all works out. For now I'm looking forward to spring break and playing with the BCS girls team. The WU coach asked me to bring my clubs back after spring break and i could get some time in at the range here and possibly go out with the girls on the team once or twice. How exciting!!!

I think that's about it. I really feel like God opened up a lot of doors here to make this happen and I think he wants me to go for it! Pray that my back continues to heal (i'm like 4ish months pain free!!) so that i'll be strong enough to play a ton this summer!!

Happys and crappys

Here is my promised post. I've got ten minutes before class starts so let's see if i can write it all in ten minutes!

Happy!

I completely switched my housing group/situation for next year! I was planning on living with Jin and Anna and another girl, Lindsay from down the hall... and living in Gregg, which is the sopohomore equivalent of my dorm (Lien). But then last weekend, a friend from my spanish class last semester called and said she has one more spot to fill in her suite and would I wanna join their group? And I said no at first because I had already committed to my people, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I wanted to do it! Melanie and I studied a ton together last semseter and she is truely a lovely girl!! I know one of the other girls in the group too. Her name is Libby and we met last year at Multicultural weekend. She is super sweet as well! The other two, another Melanie and Marli, I didn't know at all, but I figured I really do want to meet more people and to open up my circle of friends!
So all that pretty much happened over night. And in the end... i called melanie back and went for it! unfortunately, we were still one girl short because we would be living in the six person traditional suite (the OLD dorms... not at all like the hotel that i am currently living in haha). I am actually excited to be living there, althought I haven't actually been inside one. It is two doubles and two singles and then a bathroom and a huge common room! It should be really neat! and its $2000 cheaper woohoo!
so we still had the problem of finding me a roommate... cuz melanie #1 and libby would take one double and melanie 2 and marli would each take a single. i texted a few of my friends but since its pretty late in the process most people already have their groups. but then... one of my friends who I know pretty well and who had said she already had a group changed her mind and decided to come with us! it couldn't have worked out better! i have a friend that i know really well as my roommate and a whole new group to get to know next year!

I'm super excited to hang out with them this semester and do fun stuff with them and then all live together next year! it'll be great!!

and the crappy really quick... i've got 4 minutes!!

i was in spanish 307 but i did horribly on the first composition and my prof talked to me and said she really didn't think i was ready for this class and that i didn't have the foundation necessary for that level. :/ it sucked. i had really enjoyed spanish last semster but to hear that you're not good enough for the next level was crushing.
she suggested that i take 301 which is an oral course and is muchhhhh easier. so i decided i would do it. i had one day before the drop period ended and so i made the switch and in the end it has been a great decision! i was pretty disappointed last week but now i'm feeling much better about it!

okay gotta run!

Lots to share!

Sorry I didn't post on Friday! I can see the statistics on how many people check this page and on which days... and there were quite a few hits on both Friday and Saturday! I was pooped Friday and couldn't get myself to write anything then... but now I'm fresh and ready for another week! (Or so I think... ask me again in seven hours when my alarm goes off...)

So let's go back a bit... because I finally uploaded some pictures and of course pictures speak better than words...

This is from Shannon's birthday. Charlie, Kathleen (a good friend from my international leadership program) and I

Kathleen and I

I mentioned in my last post how stinking cold it was a week or two ago... well the aftermath of that was salt... EVERYWHERE. No this is not snow, or hail, or ice... it is salt. And sadly it didn't work because we all slipped anyways!

Well of course we're in the midwest and if it snows and it freezing cold one week, well its only right that the next week it should be 65 and sunny! I absolutely loved it!! We had a whole week of it! Then this weekend was nasty and rainy but the week should be sunny and in the 50s!

This friday we went to target... again. its becoming our weekly friday night outing hahaha. I made a very special investment. One that has needed to happen for awhile now... my spatula just wasn't doing the job.

A MIXER!! WOOHOO!!! I feel like I betrayed my kitchenaide at home but how in the world would I haul that out here?? So I made this wonderful investment :) And then of course I coudn't just leave it in the box!! So Shannon and I decided to make banana bread! But then we realized we had no loaf pan! But thankfully there were some cupcake tins in the floor kitchen and so we made banana bread muffins!! They were delicious!! It was a "healthy recipe," no oil or sugar... applesauce and honey instead! I don't know if any of you have heard of Pinterest but its my new favorite obsession. go to pinterest.com and check it out. look me up and look at my boards :) its amazing! anyways, i've been finding all these new recipes to try and this was one of them! you can find the recipe on my "Need to make recipes" board.

Well, a girls night in wouldn't be complete without take out. yum!!

Although this weekend was great, with all the baking on Friday night, catching up on tv shows last night and a big church super bowl/chili cookoff tonight (SO MUCH FUN) the week kinda sucked. I really would explain it to you, and I promise that I will. asap. but it's 12:45 now and i really don't wanna start out my week getting no sleep haha.

i promise to post tomorrow! i'll post the happys and the crappys. because the week was definitley crappy but last weekend was a huge happy!! :D now i'm just getting silly. But this is the quote I am gonna leave you with... thank you to pinterest for finding this... my goal/focus for the week!
