Beginning of Spring Semester

It's Monday night and I'm just finishing up everything for the week ahead. It has been really great being back at school. I love being independent again (Sorry mom :)), I love being around all my friends again, I love my deepened friendships with the golf team... and I'm very excited about all my classes this semester!

As for my classes, I'm taking:

Swahili II: fun and on the easy side, I really enjoy Swahili everyday especially because I am beginning to apply for my study abroad in Kenya next spring! So exciting!

Violence Against Women: I'm really going to enjoy this class because as difficult as the topics are, they are things I am very passionate about and I have so far enjoyed the readings and discussions. The professor is also very good and fun, which always makes a class better!

Anthropology of Human Birth: This will be a difficult class because of how "sciencey" it is... But I am really excited to get to the more anthropological/sociological aspects and learn more about maternal mortality and perinatal problems. The professor is highly respected in his field internationally so it will be really incredible to get to learn from him.

International Public Health: I added this class at the last minute and am very glad I did. Public Health was actually the thing that first drew my attention to Wash U so I'm excited to take a class on it. The readings have been extremely interesting to me and so I'm curious to see where this will lead me! I plan on writing my final paper for this class on a public health issue in Indonesia - so I can learn more about the country and the public health issues right before I go! Pretty awesome!

African Civilization: 1800-Present: This one will be difficult to because of the depth and volume of material. It is very history-based, which I enjoy but it's been awhile since I've taken a purely history class. But I'm looking forward to learning more about Africa and to understand the continent and the issues it faces today in a new perspective.

So there you go! Great classes that will be fascinating for my interests and passions! I'm excited!

It's been VERY VERY VERY cold here. Today the high was 20 something and the low was 7. With wind though the temp was 7-15 all day. BRRRRRRRRR! Plus we had golf practice in that weather! We were FREEZING but it was still fun and surprisingly I hit much better today that I did on Friday when it was 20 degrees warmer! ha!

We had to Arizona in 7 weeks for our "spring training" and first tournament. I'm very motivated to work hard and play well!

Other than golf and classes... I've been cooking and baking with Libby all weekend :) We both brought back lots of new cookbooks and magazines so we made all sorts of things this weekend! Butternut Squash lasagna with fresh, homemade pasta, pear cranberry tart, smores cake, cauliflower soup, panzanella... so much great stuff! Most of it we take to different events that we go to so we're definitely not eating all of that ourselves! But it's been a blast to cook together and shop together and come up with recipes... we love it :)

Now, I've got another 50 pages of reading to get back to... Love you all!

DISNEY!!!!! (And Chicago!)

Well I've had such a fantastic week and I'm so excited to share it with you now! I left Seattle last Friday at midnight and took a red-eye down to Florida. Hannah and I both arrived at 11 so we found each other and headed off for Disneyworld!

We found the others at the hotel (which was awesome!), went to Downtown Disney for the afternoon while we waited for the last two to arrive. The rest of the night was pretty chill, which I much appreciated after flying all night!

We stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, thanks to one of the girls' parents who cashed in a timeshare for us. The room(s) was awesome with a kitchen, living room, master suite and second bedroom. Plenty of room for all seven of us!

This is me and Erin at Downtown Disney that first day.

Andi, Hannah and Mel on the carousel

Oh, the other incredible part about the resort was the fact that the resort circled a whole savannah where they had giraffes, impala, antelopes, zebra... all roaming about! One night the giraffes slept right by our room!!

Sunday we went to Magic Kingdom and had so much fun!!! We went on every ride (many multiple times!) and just had a blast reliving childhood memories and enjoying the day!

Here, Cinderella's stepmother wanted Chee to show her her golf swing :D

 Mel and Chee with characters

 Yay!!!

We went to the Boardwalk for dinner that night and I convinced everyone to go to the ESPN Zone so we could watch the seahawks in the playoffs. It was perfect timing and we got to watch them win!!!

Massive screen...

Magic Kingdom was really pretty, still all decked out in Christmas decorations

The fireworks show was incredible!

Olivia and I on Dumbo!

So Monday we played golf at one of the Disney resort courses. It was so fun to get out and play after not playing a round since mid-October. The weather was iffy and rained the last several holes but overall it was a really fun day!

Tuesday we went to Universal's Island of Adventure (and where Harry Potter world is). OH MY GOSH HARRY POTTER WORLD IS SO COOL!!!!

This is the entrance... doesn't it look just like Hogsmeade?!

Here's Hogwarts...

And they had a whole ride inside of this which was hands-down the coolest ride I've ever been on. I can't even describe it so you'll just have to make your way to Florida and see it for yourself :D

In Honeydukes, the candyshop

They have all the candy that is in the books too! It's so, so, so cool!

So they had all the shops that are in the books... and you can buy all sorts of stuff in them! Wands, candy, robes, books... butterbeer. It truely is an incredible attraction!

Wednesday, our flight didn't leave until 7pm so we spent the day at Downtown Disney and at our pool... A really nice, chill day after all our adventures!

Connie and Melanie are recreating the lion king scene here...

Thursday and Friday (today) we have been in Chicago, bouncing around to different houses. Melanie and Hannah both live here in Chicago and so Connie, Andi and I flew back here with them so we wouldn't have to fly all the way home for just a couple of days. We stayed at Melanie's the first night and then yesterday, I met up with Libby who lives in chicago and we went downtown and explored the city and then made dinner at her house and just had a really fun day!

Here we are at the Bean!

Now it's late Friday night and we are driving back to STL in the morning! Can't believe we're already going back but I'm also really excited to get back, get settled in, start my classes and see my friends! It's going to be a really great semester, I can already feel it... I'll post again this week once classes have started!
